A big yes to feminism! Embrace the label, don’t be ‘slightly’ feminist… Allow yourself to feel empowered, courageous and FEMALE!

Despite this, I really enjoyed your letter to Miss Slattery, I think she would feel encouraged to understand the support and excitement she garnered from your experience reading her story!

However, I don’t agree that she wouldnt have be discoverd her indep”independence” without him. I believe this was a journey of self discovery, influenced by her external influences. She had an intrinsic motivation to grow and exceed the confines and expectations of Mr Szabo indeed, but she also wanted to ‘stick it’ to society and the contextual beliefs that you mentioned. Moreover, her progression from being the demure and modest lady she was into the empowered woman she became displays a beautiful example of how pushing the boundaries and not being idle will only bring positivity.

The way Patrick White cowrote about Miss Slattery allowed the audience to empathise and feel motivated with her. His language from the beginning of the piece to the end changed and grew with her, which again depicts the emotional, physical and psychological journey she embarked upon and succeeded!
