Reflection from Joey’s blog about modernism!
Thanks Joey for a really exciting piece!
Your rhetorical question is something I consider often, what is the next ‘thing’ in literature and how will it impact our lives? Will it be the consequence of a morbid WW3?Or Will the increase of anxiety in society finally seek an outlet in literature? How will the overgrowing media and social platforms effect what we know as literature today? HUGE questions. This existential angst is similar to that of modernism, where, people did not fit into society so they seemed outlets and new ways to interpret (or not interpret) things. I believe we are on the cusp of a new modernism. individuals fleeting emotions and complex psyche are effectively an emotional and psychological petrie dish for imagination, creativity and art to flourish.
In this modern world where most people have access to a platform but very little speak, I don’t know what to expect from the future. However, utilising these networks and pursuing intellectual conversations about pressing topics will ensure the “new modernism” could be hopeful one.
